History Matters
A posthumous collection of essays by legend David McCullough will be released by Simon & Schuster on September 16. It is about the value of understanding history, was co-edited by his daughter and researcher, and includes a foreword by historian and presidential advisor Jon Meacham. Previous books by McCullough include 1776, The Pioneers, John Adams, The Wright Brothers, The Path Between the Seas, Truman, Brave Companions, The American Spirit, The Greater Journey, and The Course of Human Events.
1929: Inside the Greatest Crash in Wall Street History—and How it Shattered a Nation
Andrew Ross Sorkin — from The New York Times, DealBook, and Squawk Box — has a new book coming from Viking on October 14 about the 1929 stock market crash which led to the Great Depression. This is Sorkin’s second book on a historical financial moment. His first was Too Big To Fail about the 2008 banking crisis, which inspired a movie of the same name starring William Hurt, Billy Crudup, Paul Giamatti, Topher Grace, and Bill Pullman.

A photobook of Michelle Obama’s styles throughout her public life and at special events comes from Crown on November 4. The book will also feature stories on the looks by Obama, as well as highlight numerous designers who she’s worked with over the years. This will be the former First Lady’s fifth book.
The American Revolution: An Intimate History
Ken Burns and his collaborator Geoffrey Ward have an expansive book on the American Revolution coming from Knopf on November 11, to coincide with their six-part, 12-hour film of the same name premiering on November 16 on PBS. The film includes insights from dozens of historians, including Nathaniel Philbrick, the celebrated author of Mayflower, In the Heart of the Sea, and Bunker Hill. It is narrated by Peter Coyote and includes voice-acting by Kenneth Branagh, Josh Brolin, Claire Danes, Jeff Daniels, Morgan Freeman, Paul Giamatti, Domhnall Gleeson, Amanda Gorman, Tom Hanks, Ethan Hawke, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton, Laura Linney, Tobias Menzies, Edward Norton, Liev Schreiber, and Meryl Streep, among others.
